Budding Business: Eco-Entrepreneurship with Pest & Pollinator
In this video, Keith Chaloux, owner of Pest & Pollinator, talks about his entrepreneurial journey and the support provided by the PCC SBDC along the way. Read more below:

In the heart of Oregon's lush landscape, Pest & Pollinator LLC, under the stewardship of Keith Chaloux, is on a mission to transform the world of pest control. What began as a winding journey from art student to habitat restoration worker to pest control expert has culminated in Pest & Pollinator—a business that harmonizes eco-friendly pest control with habitat restoration. Thanks to the guidance of the Portland Community College Small Business Development Center (PCC SBDC), Pest & Pollinator has not only found its footing but is also paving the way for a greener, safer approach to pest management.

Bugging Out: The Inspiration Behind Pest & Pollinator

DSC00708"Pest & Pollinator is what happens when an exterminator learns the tricks of the trade, uses a combination of 21st-century products & knowledge of the ecosystem, to deconstruct pest control and provide a new, safer service for the environment," Keith explains. Keith's journey from manual labor to ecological enlightenment has shaped Pest & Pollinator into a beacon of innovation in the industry.

Navigating the uncertain terrain of entrepreneurship, Keith found himself at a crossroads before seeking guidance from the PCC SBDC. "Coming up on 3 years in, I was unsure where I was going with Pest & Pollinator," he admits. However, with the support of the PCC SBDC's Business Builders training program, Keith gained clarity and confidence in steering his business towards success.

Participating in the Business Builders training program proved instrumental in Keith's entrepreneurial journey. "Business Builders taught me that there are different ways to be successful at owning a small business," Keith reflects. Armed with newfound insights, Pest & Pollinator has honed its unique value proposition, strengthened marketing strategies, and forged strategic partnerships, propelling the business forward.

Flourishing Future: Paving the Way for Pest & Pollinator's Next Steps

With a clearer vision and enhanced strategies, Pest & Pollinator is poised for growth. While Keith's business stands at a milestone, his vision for the future remains unwavering. "I hope that someday soon, all pest control companies will be doing it this way," he declares, envisioning a future where ecological integrity and pest management coexist seamlessly.

Pest & Pollinator LLC isn't just about eradicating pests; it's about nurturing nature and fostering ecological balance. Keith's journey from art student to ecological entrepreneur is a testament to the transformative power of passion, perseverance, and strategic guidance. As Pest & Pollinator continues to thrive under Keith's stewardship, it serves as a beacon of hope for a greener, more sustainable future in pest management and habitat restoration.

Advice from the Hive: Keith's Recommendations for Entrepreneurs

Reflecting on his experience, Keith offers sage advice to aspiring entrepreneurs. "The Business Builders training program is definitely a great investment if you’re starting a small business," he emphasizes. "There’s so many pitfalls out there, SBDC sets you up to avoid them."
