Meet Your Instructor: Dr. Andrew Garland-Forshee

Dr. Andrew Garland-Forshee is an instructor for the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification – Ayurvedic Yoga Health Program at PCC.

Dr. Andrew Garland-Forshee currently serves as the Department Chair for the Family and Human Services program at PCC. He is a certified Yoga For All instructor focusing on accessible, inclusive, body positive yoga, and is licensed to teach LoveYourBrain yoga. Andrew uses his background and training in mindfulness, yoga, yoga nidra, somatics, and contemplative-based practices to enhance his teaching and practice of human services, behavioral health, intervention strategies, and human development. 

He is a first generation college graduate and an active scholar-practitioner-educator. His current teaching and research interests include mental health stigma reduction among LGBTQI+ populations, salutogenic interventions to trauma response, and the application of mindfulness and contemplative practices in undergraduate human service education. Dr. Garland-Forshee has published professional articles and reviews in scholarly journals including the Journal of Human Services, International Journal of Childbirth Education, and the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Social Services. 

As a life-long learner, Dr. Garland-Forshee has completed training with LoveYourBrain to offer accessible yoga for individuals who have experienced Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Recently, he completed his Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Practitioner certification under the guidance of Dr. David Treleaven. Dr. Garland-Forshee uses his background and training in mindfulness, yoga, and contemplative based practices to enhance his teaching of human services, behavioral health, intervention strategies, and human development.

Dr. Garland-Forshee was a recipient of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) 2018 Faculty Excellence Award. In addition to his professional credentials, he has the privilege of parenting an active, sparkly, Swifty loving school-ager.
