3 Options to Support Small Businesses During Small Business Saturday - November 26

Posted by PCC Small Business Development Center on October 24, 2022

As the nation prepares for the 2022 holiday retail season Small Business Saturday (November 26, 2022 - the day AFTER Black Friday)  is a great way to support businesses with the most direct connection to people across the Portland Metro region – your neighborhood small businesses

axp_round_twotone_tiltPCC’s Small Business Development Center has proudly supported thousands of Portland businesses including retail, manufacturing, finance, agriculture, real estate, educational services - and even musicians and artists - to name a few. Our New Client Orientations are designed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners quickly and succinctly get the information needed to access our many services

According to America's Small Business Administration (SBA) "Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities. This year, we know that small businesses need our support now more than ever as they navigate, retool and pivot from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Please join SBA and organizations across the country in supporting your local small businesses by shopping at a small business."

Wondering how you can #shopsmall in Portland this winter?

Here are three options to support local businesses during Small Business Saturday and beyond:

1.  Visit one of Portland’s neighborhood business districts. Montavilla, Foster-Powell, Mississippi, Belmont, Alberta, Broadway, Downtown, 23rd, 21st, Hawthorne, Fremont, Hillsdale, Kenton, Multnomah Village, Sellwood, St. Johns, Lents, Division - plus many more! It doesn’t matter which neighborhood you choose – Portland is fortunate to have unique, charming and safe business districts across the entire metro area. Our friends at Venture Portland created a handy map to help you discover new businesses in your favorite neighborhood.

2. Check Out Travel Portland's Holiday Events Page. For several years our friends at Travel Portland have been turning empty storefronts into pop-up shops during the autumn months - Including My People's Market and Crafty Wonderland

The PDX Pop-Up Shop program matches local talent and emerging small businesses with temporary retail storefront opportunities in the Central Downtown and Old Town areas and additional mentoring, support, and promotion for emerging new businesses. Come downtown and spread the love!

Sponsored by American Express, Small Business Saturday continues to be an annual holiday shopping tradition — just one part of the larger Shop Small Movement that supports small businesses every day and everywhere. Shopping at a family-owned framing spot or buying a handmade ring from your favorite online small business helps to promote more vibrant communities. That's why American Express is proud to back Small Business Saturday and the Shop Small Movement.

Grab your favorite warm beverage and let's support Portland's Small Businesses and makers!
