This course provides a highly interactive training to become a mediator and to develop better communication skills in conflict situations.
You will learn and practice how to:
- Structure the mediation process through a step-by-step procedure
- Increase your effectiveness in listening to and communicating with people in conflict
- Assist disputants to reach mutually satisfying agreements
- Enhance negotiation skills-your own and others'
- Work with strong emotions respectfully and constructively, especially with the disputing parties face to face
- Manage cross-cultural differences
- Respond to ethical dilemmas that arise in mediation
- Develop strategies to deal with various elements of conflict.
About the Instructor
Tsipora Dimant took her first mediation training in 1992 and continued to take training and workshops, and volunteered my time at small claims court mediation an average of 2-3 cases a week for a period of 10 years. In 1995 she was hired as a mediator at the Better Business Bureau and later became the director of its mediation program. She started teaching mediation classes at PCC in 2005 and has been teaching on and off since then. Dimant mediates regularly for families, workplace, and business. She is currently a full-time mediator and a trainer for the City of Beaverton. Learn more.
