Medication Assisted Treatment of Opioid Use Disorders

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a proven treatment for individuals with opioid use disorders. Learn the trends of opiate use and treatment. Using the ASAM: Criteria, we explore pharmacology of medications, assessment, and treatment planning.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Articulate the current and historical trends of licit and illicit opiate use in the United States.
  2. Describe the function of Medication Assisted Treatment at the different levels of care.
  3. Describe the pharmacology of medications used in the treatment of opioid use disorders. 
  4. Engage in evidence based treatment planning including: placement into appropriate level of withdrawal management, concurrent counseling strategies, and continued service criteria.

Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADCs), Case Managers, Peer Support Specialist and Recovery Mentors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, Qualified Mental Health Professionals and Associates (QMHPs and QMHAs), Psychotherapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Nurses, Addiction counselors, and other Healthcare Professionals

Nick Reguero, CADCII, LPC

Nick Reguero is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Level 2 (CADC-II License # 16-10-18) in good standing with the Addictions Counseling Certification Board of Oregon (ACCBO).  He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPCLicense # C4397) in good standing with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT).  He received his Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Portland State University in June 2014.  Nick has worked in both inpatient and outpatient drug and alcohol treatment settings and is currently employed as a counselor in a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program at Central City Concern.
